"This talk describes the impact of the open education movement on second language learning and teaching. The talk begins by illustrating how open educational resources (OER) allow educators to create, adapt, and curate pedagogical materials in new ways. Next, the talk focuses on the field of second language education beyond the classroom. It is argued that open educational practices have coalesced into a new knowledge ecology that has changed how disciplinary knowledge is created and disseminated. The talk ends with a brief discussion of open education as a value system."
